The Origin Story Of The Original Power Easy Portable Dual Battery Sytem

Portable Dual Battery Origin

Evolution of the Power Easy Portable Dual Battery

The modern Power Easy Portable Dual Battery system of today has come from a long history of development. The Power Easy system was originally called the 12 Volt Easy, designed by Jamie over 11 years ago for a couple of Councils. The 12 Volt Easy met a need for a strong, portable power station. This Origin of the Power Easy was a TOUGH Aluminium box with a 120 Ah AGM battery, an analogue Volt Meter and Amp Meter. It also features Cig Sockets and a merit plug.

The Power Easy system was very popular with Jamie’s customers and has been one of our core products at JTS every since. Over the years the Power Easy evolved from the chequer plate box to a compact plastic box first with the standard isolator and then as technology improved we added the Redarc BCDC Charger to the range creating the Power Easy Portable Dual Battery System.

With improvements in plastic injection mouldings and designs, the Power Easy has evolved into three main kits today.

Power Easy Base Station:

The base station is the core box every Power Easy is built on. This box is designed to meet the needs of the Australian camper and is designed to house the battery of your choice and be charged at home before heading away. When at the campsite we recommend plugging in a portable solar panel to keep in front of your fridge.

The Power Easy Base Station Features:

  • 2 Genuine Anderson plugs
  • 2 High Output USB’s
  • 2 Posts for alligator clips
  • 2 Cig Style sockets
  • Digital Volt Meter with a momentary switch

The average camper will use the two genuine Anderson plugs typically for a solar panel input and for a 12-volt fridge. It is also handy to have a genuine Anderson plug on your home battery charger to make recharging your battery box easy.

The high output USB will keep your iPads, tablets and smartphones charged, a hot tip is to turn your phone on aircraft mode when camping and especially when recharging, when you want to take a minute to go online simply switch off the aircraft mode then when you are done being disturbed by the outside world switch it back on. This will keep your power consumption as low as possible.

Power Easy 20amp Portable Dual Battery System:

The Power Easy 20 is the first portable dual battery system in the range and is probably our most popular system overall. Powered by the Redarc BCDC1120 IGN it is suitable for modern low voltage vehicles. This box is designed to meet the needs of the regular tourer who may travel for a day, stay overnight and then hit the road again.

The Power Easy 20 can be used in conjunction with a portable solar panel kit when staying camped for more than a day. Recommended to house the battery of your choice and be charged at home before heading away. When at the campsite we recommend plugging in a portable solar panel to keep in front of your fridge.

Why a digital Volt Meter with a momentary switch?

A simple modification that can save you money down the track. The digital voltmeter is your guide to keep your battery as healthy as possible. The voltage of your system is an indication of the state of charge for your battery.

  • 12.8 Volts: 100% Fully Charged
  • 12.2 Volts: 50% Discharged
  • 11.9 Volt: 80% Discharged

When using an AGM or Calcium style deep cycle battery in your Power Easy Portable Dual Battery it is highly recommended you keep the system above 12.2. Regularly dropping down to 11.9 can half the life of your deep cycle battery.

If you are running with Lithium you can safely run down to 80% more regularly.

How to spot a copy

There have been so many come and go over the years, from ex-staff members trying to do it themselves to other companies taking the idea and running with it. The Power Easy box stands on the quality you would expect from a JTS product.

Each socket is individually fused with 6mm cable and waterproof fuse holder. The BCDC is mounted snug into the lid of the battery box. Anderson Plugs are GENUINE Anderson plugs, not counterfeit or copies and they are protected with a 50 amp resettableable circuit breaker.

We take the time to put a discreet momentary switch on the voltmeter so your meter is running all the time and you can easily check the voltage as required.

All our wiring is completed in a tight harness, built in-house, to ensure cables are kept out of harm’s way and we use 8B&S Cable for the battery to minimize voltage drop.

The Power Easy complete range is a passion of the teams and JTS and we proudly stand behind our product with a team who know their stuff and are ready and willing to help out.
